Anchor Mode (Viewability Booster)

Our Anchor Mode (Viewability Booster) ensures your ad placements achieve premium viewability scores by temporarily keeping them on-screen, maximizing eCPMs and guaranteeing the success of your direct campaigns.

Through Ad Manager Hub, the Anchor Mode (Viewability Booster) solves this challenge by intelligently ensuring that an ad slot remains visible for a specifically configured number of seconds.

What is Anchor Mode?
Anchor Mode is a dynamic layout behavior that prevents ad slots from being scrolled past too early.

If a user scrolls past an ad slot before your defined visibility target (for example, 4 seconds) is met, the ad unit dynamically creates a sticky effect. It "anchors" itself to the top of the user's screen, remaining fully in the viewport until the exact time requirement is reached.

Once the time target is fulfilled, the ad smoothly un-anchors and scrolls away with the rest of the page's content.

The Strategic Impact
Activating the Viewability Booster delivers immediate value to both your inventory quality and bottom line:
  • Skyrocketing Viewability Metrics: By physically keeping the ad in the viewport, you significantly increase the number of ad slots across your site that meet high-viewability criteria.
  • Higher eCPMs: Because programmatic buyers bid heavily based on historical viewability scores, improving these metrics naturally forces higher bid values and stronger eCPMs across your stack.
Enterprise-Grade Granular Controls
Publishers require absolute flexibility, especially when balancing programmatic yield with direct sales commitments. Ad Manager Hub provides advanced governance over exactly when and where Anchor Mode activates, ensuring it serves your precise business goals.

From the platform's settings, your AdOps team can apply this feature in three distinct ways:
  • Universally: You can easily activate the viewability booster to apply universally to all of your direct demand delivery.
  • Targeted by Line Item or Advertiser: To protect your most valuable direct deals, you can selectively enable the anchor effect only for specific Google Ad Manager (GAM) line items or dedicated advertisers. This acts as a powerful guarantee that your premium sponsors will hit their viewability targets.
  • At the Ad Slot Level: If you only want to boost the performance of notoriously low-viewability placements (like mid-article or footer slots), you can configure Anchor Mode strictly at the individual ad slot level.
